Descendants of JOSEPH PATTEN CHARLES SHERLOCK

A few years ago my father Ivan Adolphus Sherlock ( b. 1909 ) put together a booklet of all the family information he had collected over decades of travelling and sending out letters ( most never answered )and turned a copy of it over to each of us children. He was approaching 90 years of age at the time and was finding it difficult to organize a search for new information. He wanted someone to carry on the search. Not particularly interested at the time, my brother ( David Arthur Sherlock) and I ( Ivan Ernest George Sherlock [ Bud ]) started to search the internet and found a wealth of information on the family of SHERLOCK. We in turn put new information with old and compiled a booklet for Dad's 90th birthday.
The small research project for my Father has turned into a major hobby for me, and as Arian Collins so aptly put it--- "Never Ending".

I was very fortunate to make a connection with Arian Evan Collins and recieved a copy of " The Sherlocks of Ireland". Much credit goes to Arian for the hard work of researching, compiling information and publishing this work so all those researching SHERLOCK will have a great " kick start " to the wonderful hobby of family history.
Credit must also be given to My Father , Ivan Adolphus Sherlock and Leona Mae Grainger { Lee } ( Great Great Granddaughter and Great Grandson of JP Sherlock) for gathering and sharing this information on the Prince Edward Island Branch of Sherlocks.

JOSEPH PATTEN CHARLES SHERLOCK was born in 1788 in Barradaw, Co Cork , Ireland. Little is known of him until he appears in Prince Edward Island, Canada.
He married EMMA FRANCES CANNON in 1829 at St Johns Church, St. Eleanors Parish, Richmond Township, Prince Edward Island.

My Great Grandfather was Henry Adolphus Sherlock, b. 1834 in Prince Edward Island, d. Port Arthur, Ontario, Canada, 1928. He married Abigail McArthur, 1869, in Alberton Prince Edward Island, Canada.

Henry is listed in Lovell's Prince Edward Island Directory of 1871 as a farmer. He left PEI in 1883 and settled in Port Arthur, Ontario, Canada ( now Thunder Bay ). The family followed in 1886.

Henry worked in construction of the Canadian Pacific Railway between Winnipeg, Manitoba and Port Arthur, Ontario. It is said he rode the first passenger train east from Winnipeg to Port Arthur.
